What fish is this ?

Can't remember what the fish shop said I think there called river tetras but I'm not 100% sure any help would be great

It's called the Splashing Tetra (Copella Arnoldi) I do believe.

One more question any chance you know how to tell the male from the female ?

If I had to venture a guess, that would be a male. Males grow larger and have a little bit of a more elaborate finnage. But other than that it's hard to tell.
