My tank is cycling right now and it has only been going for about a week but I saw today that the back if one of my pieces of driftwood. What is it and how do I get rid of it? It's only on this piece. I boiled before putting it in the tank and the lights in the tank are only on at night. Will it mess up the cycling process?ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1409367379.165543.jpgImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1409367398.022522.jpg

It is a fungus that is feeding off of something the DW is providing. It is temporary and should not affect the cycling or any tank inhabitant. It is unpleasant looking IMO. You can remove the DW and scrape it off or reboil it. It may or may not come back but if it does it should be less than what it was.

From what I've read, bottom feeders such as plecos, cories, Otos, shrimp, and ramshorn snails
