AqAdvisor is a good indicator for a beginner and has probably saved a lot of over stocking disasters. But with experience and first hand knowledge of your own set up you should know when a tank is overstocked. Nitrate levels rising too high within a few days is the indicator that I would rely on and checking that ammonia and nitrite levels are being adequately processed by the filter(s). I believe heavy planting does help to a small degree but choice of fish, quantities of each species, size, social habits, feeding habits etc all come into play. I was glad of AqAdvisor when I got back into fish keeping a couple of years ago but don't refer to it any more.

I think this topic has been beat into the ground. Simple answer, yes aqadvisor is a good metric for beginners, no it isn't perfect or all knowing. I think this sums up all the discussion.
