Yea just look on youtube...plenty of kids uploading videos of huge fish in tiny tanks. and when you try to tell them about it, you get F this F that type of replies.

Honestly , is it fair to keep any fish larger than 6" in an aquarium less than 250g? For that matter , is it fair to keep any fish in an aquarium. These fish have been domesticated since day one. Something as small as a neon tetra is used to a lake of some sort and we keep them in an aquarium.
As far as the substrate, the benefit of it is not for the fish unless they dig in it. The substrate is for looks and benefical bacteria. I would think it is easier to clean the tank with no substrate, especially if you have something that eats live feeders that need cleaned up right after feeding.
