I'm thinking of getting this shrimpery kit to treat my fish to some brine shrimps every once-in-awhile.

Has anyone ever bought anything like this? How good or bad is it? Would you recommend it or anything else?

Also, what kind of fish are brine shrimps appropiate for?

Just out of curiousity:
Are brine shrimps actually shrimps, or are they some kind of larva? I guess I'm curious after finding out that bloodworms are actually mosquito larvas.

I think Bloodworms are Midge larva. Brine shrimps are shrimps. I have that kit you put a link to, it works as advertised. If you want baby shrimp, to feed your baby fish it is nice. If you want full sized brine shrimp, for your full sized fish... by frozen IMO.

Thanx.

That might be good for my livebearers who seem to keep producing frys every month or so. lol.

ALL of my fish enjoy pigging out on them! I keep mostly SA fish (tetras, cichlids, etc.) and also some CA cichlids. They all go nuts when I put them in the tank.

That would be interesting to see how my fish react to having them. I have an African Cichlid in one tank, Gold Skirt Tetras, Marigold Swordtails and one Ghost Catfish in another tank, and one tank with a couple Marigold Swordtails and her babies. I also recently bought a betta tank.

I think the Ghost Catfish would for sure like the brine shrimp. These kind of fish usually won't even touch the flakes, so he only gets some food when I drop the bloodworms in the tank at evenings.

Brine shrimp are indeed shrimp....what you get when you hatch them are called 'nauplii' and are the juvenile form of the Artemia brine shrimp....you can grow them to adults, but it is a lot of work, and the nauplii are actually far more nutritious than the adults anyways.

Those shrimperies are OK, although I prefer the saucer type ( http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com/equip_shrimp_hatchery.html )....but you can make a very effective shrimpery for pennies out of a 2L soft-drink bottle or a mason jar and an air pump:
