i just noticed that theres some kind of white fuzz that looks like pieces of a cotton ball stuck to my driftwood..... any idea what it is and if its dangerous?

Is it pure white? Or does it look like dirty cotton?

Is it fuzzy/porous, or stranded? Or does it have a smooth, slimy surface?

Most growths on driftwood are consuming DW nutrients, and will go away when the nutrients are gone.

I get those on the part of the driftwood that sticks up out of the water. The first looked like the head of a Q-tip. The second almost looked like a root. If I had to guess, it's bacteria or fungus of some kind. None of my fish seem bothered by it.

Sounds like a fungus to me. How long has the wood been in the tank? This is fairly common for newly submerged pieces of wood in a tank. I'd link you to a more comprehensive article that I wrote some time ago, but inter-forum politics prevent that. :)
