My Oscar is in a community tank - they all get along - anyway, it appears to be rotting away. I’ve used fin rot medication but I don’t know what else it could be. Any advice would be great.

Today he has developed two small holes in his tail fin.

It looks like your Oscar might be suffering from Columnaris, a very bad bacterial infection.
It's very difficult to cure. Several have mentioned combinations of antibiotics to treat the disease. Others have suggested salt treatments. I don't remember the exact salt dosage.
Columnaris doesn't exist in salt water.
Fortunately I've had very few fish contract Columnaris over the years. I wasnt able to cure any.
IMO, it's best to remove the infected fish and try to save the tankmates.
