Question Wierd threads?

Hi i have these weird thread like substance growing in my tank. It look like it could be some sort of algae, because it is growing on top of my plants at the highest point (near the light). I t looks like brownish green threads. Very fine cotton like threads. The plants in my tank are plastic, so it would not be hard for me to take them out and clean them and remove the substance. Does anyone know what it is and if it is only an eyesore?

Thanks for the link. It doesn't look like any of the pictures. The description of thread algae sounds close, too bad they don't have a picture. When I pull the threads off they look greenish brown.
