Will cardinal and neon tetras school together, and will they look nice together?

I have 5 neon tetras in my tank, because 3 have died recently due to age. I would rather replace them with 3-4 cardinal tetras instead of neons. If I did, would they school together? And would they look nice even though they aren't the same fish? I think cardinals are nicer looking, so would they make the neons look more shabby?

I know that they probably won't school unless frightened, but I want them to be in a group so they are more comfortable.

Yes they'll shoal together ... they're so close in appearance that it doesn't make a difference to them they are not the same species. I actually like the look of neons and cardinals mixed. I think it looks nicer than a school of either or.

They'll hang out and shoal together, but they won't school that much.
