Will this work for my new betta until the I dollar a gallon sale at petco happens....I plan on doing daily water changes and all that good stuff to don't worry but just wanted to know if he would do ok until then

At walmart you can get an empty 10g for ~$13. That's only $3 more than an empty 10 at dollar/gallon, so you really wouldn't have to wait. I would go somewhere other than walmart to get equipment, however.

I was actually planning on getting a five gallon because I don't really have room for a ten at the moment

Yes your betta will live in there until the dollar per gallon sale

I'm pretty sure the dollar per gallon sale only applies to 10-55 gallon tanks so a 5 won't be any different. You should just get the 5 now if that's all you have space for
