Ya know I think my heater died o.o -- Disposal issues....

The other day my heater slid into the tank when I was cleaning, got filled with water so I drained it out. It was working for the last few days and I had my hand in the tank yesterday saying to myself... this is cold? The temp was 78 but i'm used to it being like 82 or higher (yeah yeah I know about the bacteria thing). So I'm thinking I'm gonna have to buy a new heater.... cuz I don't even see the light going on anymore when it turns on. 8O

I would replace it. You do not wan't it to short circuit and overheat or electricute your fish.

This time get a fully submersible heater. I'm assuming that the one you have now isn't since it got filled with water. Is this on the 10 gal tank? If so, the Stealth heater is one of the best. It won't crack. Since it's not glass you don't have to worry about breaking it.

BTW- if this is for your 20 gal tank (not sure if you have it yet or not), The Stealth 100 Watt would be the one to get instead of the 50 Watt that I previously posted.

It's a Top Fin non-submersible heater (50 watt) for my 10 gal, I haven't gotten the 20 gal yet. I know that there's a life time warentee on it but I have yet to figure out how exactly that works.... do I just take it back to petsmart and tell them it doesn't work?

I think you have to call the company for a replacement. I don't know if they will return it since it was submerged and it's not supposed to be. You may try calling them and giving it a shot.

*flips the box around* Well it says "If you're not completely satisfied with this product return it to place of purchase for a full refund"

So....go to petsmart?

If thats what the box says, then go to PetsMart.

It may still be working. But since it was fully submerged and its not a submergable heaters, I'd get a new one. But that's just me. They are under $20 online. Prices at the lfs are outrageous.

Okay, so I found a really old receipt from around when I was getting stuff for my tank.... but I can't find anything about the heater on it, and I doubt I can return the heater without the receipt. Do I have to do anything special to get rid of it or just chuck it?

You mean to throw it away? I just threw mine in the trash. I don't think they have any harmful chemicals inside of them.
