Hi everyone, I had purchased 3 ghost shrimp a few weeks ago and they are doing fine. I noticed the largest one hiding a lot lately and upon inspection today I noticed a bunch of green things on it's "undercarriage". Are these eggs? I only have the one community tank where my guppy had fry last Thursday. I'm not even trying to breed anything. Am I just lucky? Here are pics. These are the best I could get.

Yes those are eggs but they need brackish water to hatch and the baby's are very very tough to care for. Not your typical breeding shrimp.

I'm not trying to breed but if they hatch I guess they will make a good snack for my guppies

You don't have to worry then they won't hatch because they need brackish water I believe to hatch

No it doesnt. I'm not sure of the salinity needed for brackish but you have to use marine salt. You also need a refractor ever to test salinity. I believe it's 1.005 to 1.010 or something

Okay, I really don't care if they hatch. Will she drop them so they can get eaten?

They can actually be bred in freshwater it is just that the larvae are harder to care for...and they will drop them and they will be eaten by fish

There are different species of shrimp listed as ghost shrimp and some of them don't need brackish water for the eggs to hatch.
