Hi everyone,

I'm just beginning the setup of my Red Cherry Shrimp planted tank. I plan on keeping Red Cherry Shrimp, Java Fern, Java Moss and Salvinia natans. What would be the ideal temperature to keep this tank at? I've read that Java Moss likes cooler temperatures than the Shrimp, will it still grow properly if kept at ideal RCS temperature?

-Thanks :)

I got this quite a while ago from someone who has been breeding RCS for years:

Above 89, expect dying shrimp within hours.
Between 83F-88F is too warm for their likings, but will survive.
Between 68F-82F the shrimps do best, breed well.
Between 59F-68F shrimps do fine but breeding stops as temp. drops. Is fine for nightly temperatures.
Between 50F-59F shrimps survive but don't breed
Between 40F-50F shrimps survive but life gets tricky
Below 40F for a short period this is survivable, expect losses up to 90% if temp is below 40F for weeks.

I keep my RCS population at room temp., others in an unheated shed and even now outside.
In the shed temps vary between 40F-50F for weeks now.

I'm successfully keeping/breeding red cherry, red rili, orange sakura, and blue dream shrimp in unheated tanks.

Thanks :) I'm gonna have to get a heater then XD I live in Canada so even my room temp gets below 59 XD

I keep my shrimps at 79-80F

I have shrimplets at 70 degrees. I'm an amateur and wasn't expecting breeding to happen.
