Both my 55 and 10 gallon are reading 82 degrees. Odd?

My 55 is my goldie tank and is unheated. The 10 is a planted and has the heater from the 55 in it. I figured it'd just work really efficiently but I figure now it must not be turning on at all. I would have expected my water temp to be in line with the room temp but it's not. It doesn't seem to bother my fish in the slightest but I'm wondering what the deal is. I'll def be getting better thermometers soon because I'm using the stick on ones that change color. Is it strange that my water is that warm? It still feels cool to the touch.
