Decor in a goldfish tank?

So I'm cycling my tank with a comet and I'm doing water changes every other day. The tank has no decor at all so I'm wondering if he needs some driftwood or something like that. He will go back outside to the water troughs when the tank is cycled.

You could always put some of the filter media in the trough to allow it to seed and avoid the water changes? I guess down the path of fish in cycling already.

I'd skip driftwood as it might lower the ph which is also a risk with cycling. The nitrifying bacteria slow down below a ph of around 6.5.
