I love the fountain in my pond... its only a 250 Gph pump that creates a bell fountain... problem is the intake has a little spongey thing on it that routinely gets covered in algae which, after a few days, severely limits the water flow... I have to pull it off, rinse it, and put it back on.

Any tips or tricks out there for keeping it clean, even for a longer period of time? The stones on the plant shelf don't even get that gunked up... can only assume its from the water getting pulled through it...

Perhaps you could remove the sponge, and replace it with a mesh that would only catch bigger things like leaves. Other than that, keep cleaning out the sponge and be glad you are getting all of that floating algae out of the pond.
