Is My Pond too Cold for Gar?

I have a 4,000 gallon outdoor pond which is stocked with a few medium size koi. I was interested in getting some longnose gar for my pond, but I'm worried its too cold. I live in Washington and the pond will freeze during the winter. its only 3 feet deep and I'm not sure if this too shallow for gar. I don't know a lot about these fish other then the water needs to be well oxygenated and if the pond is frozen they'll need a place to surface for air. if gar can live in my pond, I'd be interested in learning more about them.

They sell floating pond heaters at places like Tractor Supply and online. But I do think you kinda north of a gars natural range.
