I'm not sure if this is a stupid question to ask or not! When you have fish in a pond when cleaning it out, can you put the fish in buckets and keep them in plain tap water? Is this safe or not? What does everyone else do??

I fill the buckets with old pond water taken from the top of the pond, reasonably clean, not tap water. You would need to use dechlorinator if you use tap water, i'd rather stick with what they are already in.

I only comptlely drain the pond maybe once every 3 years though. IMO, you need some gunk on the bottom for frogs, tadpoles, and dragonfly larvae to live in. Spring and fall i usually just use a net and scoop SOME of the gunk out of it, not all.

Ok then thanz The pond at my school I find very cruel. They put the fish in buckets under tha tap so water is flowing in and out all of the time and you can see the fish gasping for air at the top.
