Baby rat snake feeding.

I recently got a baby rat snake, and don't know what to feed it, the rat snake is almost as long, and thick, as a pencil. I have him in an old parakeet feed jar with a brick to hide under. What should i feed him?????

Just checking but you have a heat lamp on him right? And a bowl of water big enough for his whole body to fit in? Snakes are escape artists too. Unless everyone in your house is okay with the idea of a loose snake in the house then you better have it locked down tight. I've had over 20 snake escapees. Most were never found.

Ah a black racer. Usually pretty fiesty. In the wild the easiest way to differentiate them is how they act when approached. The racer will quickly flee perceived threats, the rat will freeze and lay motionless.
