Also he dosent get a lot of light I'm babysitting him mainly trying to keep him alive while I make sure he stays ok

You could always temporally just throw a desk lamp over his basking area. It would provide enough heat at least.

This is a quarantine I don't have a basking area it's really just a spare ten gallon

Pretty much anything that can be wedged or floats would work as a basking dock. So it shouldn't be too hard to find one.

I'm trying not to adopt it also as much as I would I'm going into army and already have a cat a duck and a turtle and they have 3 cats

BTW here is my tank. At one point it had decor but they tear everything up. Just got it a new filter on Thursday.
