WHat is the maximum number and types of fish which could be housed in a 30 gallon for thei life without outgrowing it? Any help would be great?

I'm not sure it is possible to answer that question. Rule of thumb is 1" per 5g of water.

How big do the clowns in your picture get? Could I house a pair of those in a tank?

The clown in my pic is Amphiprion percula, they get about 3-4", technically speaking a pair would be about the top end of your capacity. IMO, stocking really can be an art, you could probably do a pair of clowns and one other small fish, like a gobie.
