This is my first salt water tank. I want a 55 gallon. This is my shopping list so far. Without the 55 gallon tank lol. Can you guys tell me what else I need and what I dont?
I also attach my current 10 gallon freshwater tank just for fun.
The filters in the shopping list are rated for 80 gallons , should I buy two?
What about the protein skimmer do I even need one for this size of a tank ?
And the uv sterilizer ? Do I need one ?
Thanks in advance

What do you mean you attach your freshwater tank for fun????? Two of those filters would be fine. Idk what that protein skimmer is never heard of it. I would get a reef octopus hob 1000. They're supposed to be amazing. Uv sterilizes do almost nothing so spend that money on rock and sand.

I mean I attached the picture just for fun. And I'll check out the skimmer right now. I hope it's not pricey

I checked it out , it seems pretty good. I Hope I get more input from people

Are you planning on doing a sump or no? And I like a AquaC Remora S HOB for a protein skimmer that what I'm going to do when I do my 55, and am going to run without a sump and going to have a HOB Filter with carbon and GFO and keep up on weekly water changes, with plenty of live rock and live sand

Lil thing I noticed that you probably already accounted for but do you think you should attach a door stop to the stand cause it looks like the knob may hit the tank and who wants that haha

It's going to be a reef, and yes I will attach something in the bottom so the door knob won't hit the tank.

Well if it is going to be a reef, get yourself the best skimmer possible. UV sterilizers are junk, I have one and it doesn't do anything. Check out reef octopus' or skimmers like that, as I'm unsure if you are going to have a sump or not.

Don't get a canister, without weekly maintenence they are nitrate factories for buildup and decomp. The HOB filter you linked will work just fine. That tied in with your live rock, skimmer, and sand you'll have enough filtration.

I hear good things about the reef octopus as well. Never had one though. I have an aqua c demoralized HOB Skimmer and it works amazing for my 35. Looks good compared to most HOB Skimmers too. You should check into these too. I got mine for marinedepot. Greet customer SUPPORT!
