I have a 60 gallon glass aquarium that i will be converting to salt when I get the money but I have a few questions. Can I run canister filters instead of sump? Pros v. Cons? Why/ whynot? Do I need wave makers or just power heads to provide water movement? The tanks is 48Lx13Dx24T.

No, I wouldn't advise running a canister. Definitely go with a sump! It's so much better and houses nearly everything you need. You could do 3 chambers, first being for the skimmer, second as a refugium, and third for your return to the display tank. Also, you do not need to run a wave maker, however, one offers a lot more control over power heads and timing.

You can use a canister filter as a reactor but don't use it for filtration. Like Js said sump it up. Go with wave makers or you will just end up buying them later.
