Activated carbon leaching phosphate

I was planning on using some activated carbon in my reef tank that should be set up next weekend. I have been reading things that say carbon can leach phosphate into your tank, which i want to avoid. Is there a type or brand that wont cause this to happen? Are there other types of filtration media that you suggest? I was toying with the idea of putting some coarse carib sea libe sand in a media bag.
