Admit defeat?
If I don't get any nitrite readings soon, I'll have to declare my effort to jump start the cycle using clear ammonia to be iffy, at best. (Of course I realize that the ultimate proof of success or failure will be the date of the arrival of nitrates and the fall of nitrites.)
Now that Stinky the Shrimp is going strong, I won't add any more ammonia. My level is somewhere between 0.50 and 1.00 (I never was very good at those color charts - the colors I get are rarely ever on the chart).
Am I safe to assume that the cycle is proceeding normally with this ammonia level? (ammonia day three)

Livestock I added:
1 skunk cleaner. 12 hermits: red, scarlet, blue. 15 or so assorted snails. Discosomas, Ricordia, Rhodactis mushroom corals, chaetomorpha (sump), 1 feather duster, Montipora digitata, Montipora capricornis, Montipora hispids. assorted zoos, Xenia, Kenya tree coral, green Sinularia, green star polyps, branching hammer coral, bubble coral, Devil's hand leather. Yellow chromis, purple firefish.
Hitchhikers: the usual suspects :crabs, bristles, urchin, mantis shrimp (now in exile in mantis tank)
List of possible/likely newcomers:
Feather duster. PJ cardinal, Bangghai cardinal, Firefish goby, Clownfish, Neon goby, Yellow watchman goby, Orchid dottyback. Various corals.
