I'm starting a 20 gallon salt tank. I have a Marineland 100 bio-wheel filter that I used for my fresh water tank. I'm going to use it for my salt tank. I'm going to have live rock and lots of comments on this site suggest that I don't really need a HOB filter with live rock but I want to use it for some extra water movement along with my Hydor 425 and protein skimmer. My question is...use the bio-wheel or take it off.

I took mine off. I'm not sure why I took it off I just did.

I used a bio wheel hob for over a year. I ran gfo in a media bag in one of the chambers and carbon in another. Sometimes I wouldn't run anything in the chambers and just use it for a little more flow and surface agitation. If possible though I would recommend a sump with live rock and a skimmer.

Take it off.

I have a Penguin 150 on my 20 FOWLR for extra flow, with a floss pad, a 50 micron pad, and Purigen in it, but no biowheel. My water is pristine.
