I am about to install my bulkheads into my drilled bottom tank and sump. The instructions say to wet the rubber gasket before installation. I have read somewhere to put some petroleum (vaseline) jelly on the seals so they won`t dry up over time.

Now, which method should I use?

Thanks,

Paul.

The jelly should be fine. The issue with weting the seals is so that the locking nut can slip over the rubber gasket and not bind on it as you tighten it.

Something to be careful of is to not over tighten the gasket. Its possible to over tighten it and cause it to leak. Hand tighten the locking nut and then take a wrench and go 1/4th turn and that should be close to tight enough.
