Can i use sand from the beach ?

I live in south florida and im wondering if i can just use sand from the beach for my live sand in this 30 gal im setting up as a temp tank untill i get my 125 gal ?

Also when i walked the beach i found all kinds of fans, sponges and rocks
that were probably washed up on shore from the recent huricanes. I put some of these sponges and fans in a tub of saltwater when i got home and they turned the water BLACK and it smelled really bad. What does this mean and can i use any of this stuff in my tank?

In short, no. Check your local laws...it's probably illegal to harvest sand from the beach. Not that you'd want to...it can be full of contaiminents that'll kill off your enclosed reef system.
