cleaning aquarium equipment

what is the best way to clean the equipment from your aquarium. I have just been using water but someone told me i an use vinegar to help clean. what is the ratio of water to vinegar? all suggestions are welcome

I use straight vinegar when cleaning pumps, intakes, glass tops etc. Just rinse well.
