Cleaning Sandbed

What do you guys do to clean it? i always suck up a little too much sand when i do it.

I dont clean the sand bed in my tanks. If you have excessive fish waste collecting on the top of the sand bed then your feeding to much or your overstocked or you need a few more cleanup critters.

If you do clean it hold the syphon tube above the surface of the sand bed and slowly lower it till you start to get only the very top layer of detrius sucked up.

the only vacuming I do is when i'm doing a water change. all I do is lightly wave the vacume an inch or two above the sand. any lose detrius gets stirred up and sucked into the vacume.
