Dead live rock

So I stared a tank last year and I failed miserably but I had bought about 40 lbs of live rock it's been dry in a bucket for bout 6 months now I got a sump set up but I'm not sure if I can just add it to the tank alone or mix it with actual live rock???

I'd put it in salt water and test it first to see if there is any die off occuring once it gets wet again.
