frustrating canister filter - microbubbles

I have been using a filstar xp4 and its starting to produce a lot of micro bubbles. My question is if I even need to be using the canister filter. I have a 120 gallon tank with 120 pounds of live rock and a reef Octopus lx-2000s. I do not have a sump.

I just removed my canister filter from a 28 gallon. So far the protein skimmer, LR, and a hob filter with gac is doing the job.
