Depending on the type. I know some crabs are not reef safe but I think most hermits are. I have over 15 hermits big and small and have never seen them try to eat my coral. They may crawl around on it and cause it to close up but never have had any problems

I have many types of hermits from Red and Blue legged, Halloween, scarlet, some orangy pale type and a dark, almost spotted one. NONE have ever gone after my corals other than picking at stuff on the stoney part (algae etc). I even have some sit in my pagoda cup keeping it clean. My Haloween is large (lives in a conch shell) and other than moving some things around, doesn't do anything bad.
