Hermits

Do red and blue hermits shed their body(not shell) when growing.

Yes. I believe they molt their shell (skin) as they grow.

And it looks identical to a dead hermit crab too!

They will eat there old shell after a couple of days as well. It’s important to provide a couple of slightly larger shells for them to go into as they out grow there old shells or they will become cannibalistic towards their own or snails. Most lfs will either give them away free or charge around $1 for 3 or more. IME old snail shells are too large and larger hermit crab shells usually work better.

I bought some shells at a craft store. They seem to be working well. They are unpainted and 20 for $1..

Yeah,
I have about 6 other shells in my new tank for Mr. Crabby. Today he went shopping for a new 'house', tried on threee..walked around..and went back to the old one! He is so funny when you see him eyeing a new house!

:P
