How high to hang the halide?

I picked up a 175w halide pendant today for my 46 bow. It's 20" deep. How high off the water should I hang the light???

Light doesn't attenuate significantly in the air, unlike water where it quickly fades. However, it will spread out more. Do the optimum hight should be determined by how wide an area you need light based on the beam width of the light.
