is my snail suppose to eat the coraline algea on my rock if so I need to take him back

What kind of snail? If he is it won't really matter, and most people don't like Coraline algae once it starts taking over your tank. But the snail won't eat it fast enough to do anything once it gets going. That's what I thought the first time I saw my urchin eating my coraline.
