What is the proper timing for reef tank lighting? Tank is:
120gal - EcoSystems Sump 1000gph return pump
2 - 400gph power heads for circulation
2 - 400w 10000k
MH bulbs
2 - 125w Acintic
VHO bulbs
around 280lbs
LR w/a small amount of live sand around front and rear (none under "reef").
Current stock - 1 - Med Yellow Tang
1 - Flame Angel
2 - Chromis
2 - TR Percula clowns (tiny)
1 - Sabae clown and his long tentacle anenome
1 - Leather Coral
misc clean up crew (Snails, crabs, etc.)
0 - ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, PH 8.4, Salinity 1.025
Tank has been up and running about 8 months now. I plan on starting to add more corals in July and want to get lighting right.
The
MH and
VHO are on separate timers. I've read in various places and
LFS guys says that turning on the blues first followed a while after by the
MH and reversing the procedure in the evening is the best way to go.
Thoughts here? What is the total amount of time lights should be on?
