How long does it take for live rock to start acting as a biological filter??

If it is true live rock, it should immediatly. You need approx 1-2 lbs. per gallon.

What micheal means is that if the live rock is cured then it will act as a bio filter right away because the bactera for removal of ammonia and nitrite will be present. BUt, you have to have the bactera in good enough quantity and if your using LR as your sole bio filter than you should have the 1-2lbs per gal.

I have only bought 2 lbs of so called Cured from my LFS? I was afraid to buy too much this early? I guess I'm am just not sure what I am to do. I am going to get that book every said to buy. I have been doing freshwater for years but this saltwater stuff is very precise.

I dont think it is possible to add to much cured live rock to early.
