Chaeto will grow as it consumes nutrients from your water, therefore if you have a low bioload/low nitrates then it will grow slower than if you had a lot.

I use an 8 dollar clip on work light I picked up at walmart and a simple 40 watt bulb.

I got a cfl in a built in reflector 23w I think

Here's my clip on from Home Depot with a cheap CFL bulb. Cheato is growing incredibly fast. The extra little ball was just a single strand last week and now is about 2" across.
