Help!!! I'm kinda a newbie. First off I just changed into a biocube 29 and my nitrates have been high since day one. The problem is I used the sand from my previous tank that was up for about 6 months. I should have just started fresh but I didn't. Now I need to get rid of these nitrates. The biocube doesn't have a protein skimmer so it's hard to use the eliminator stuff. I've been doing large 5 gallon water changes. Once a week and have done about six. I need to get a clean up crew in there but without the nitrates gone that won't work.

Anything to help speed this up would be great...

Thanks!

Thanks :)

Bigger wc's, 5 gallons is just removing 15-20%of the nitrates. Three 50% changes this week should drop ~85% and get you under control.
