Howsit guys!

I am in the process of converting one of my freshwater tanks to a reef setup.

I need some help, i am planning to do the following, let me know what you guys think.

-paint back tank wall matt black
-get pool filter sand
-get dry rock
-i have a thermometer matched to tank size
-i will get a wave maker and maybe a clip on the back filter
-i have a Zetlight 1201 lighting system, will this be okay for a reef setup, to grow some basic coral?
-I have ordered a RODI filter system

I plan on growing some basic coral and having a fish or two.
Will pool filter sand be viable or should i have a look at getting crushed coral for substrate?

Is the tank a suitable setup? I recon with a clip on the back filter and some regular water changes i can get past a protein skimmer and a reactor. I also want to remove the canopy and keep the tank open at the top.IMG_20210517_100525.jpg

Light doesn’t seem like enough for anything but the least light demanding softies. Other than that the plan looks fine. You’ll also need test kits and a refractometer

Thank you.

This will be a new endeavor, something i haven't done before, so any advice is appreciated. What types of softies would i be able to grow? I am still learning and researching saltwater tanks.
