A friend just set up a new tank what kind of coral is this? How do you feed it?

Well that tanks a nightmare...
Did he cycle it? What kind of lights does he have? How big is it? The gravel needs to be replaced with sand? Did they do any research on sw tanks?
It looks like a super annoyed zoa frag or cyphastrea. Either way it's probably dying. Your friend needs to honestly take the livestock back and learn how to properly setup a sw tank.

Oh man.. wish I could unsee that one.. best advice would be to take it down asap and return anything still alive

Wow, and a LFS sold some Coral without a water test and setting at least a pic of the aquarium? Way to go out of business. OMG!

The coral looks like it was in rough shape before it was even sold. But yeah that store sounds awful as well. Like I said in my previous post find a suitable home for the livestock and start completely over.

No sw animal should be in that tank and it's pretty clear no research was done either.
