I'm brand new to the saltwater hobby and have kept freshwater for around 6 months I'm starting to do some research and have fallen in love with the idea of a saltwater tank I really have no clue in which direction I want to go and was hoping for some advice thanks!

What size tank are you thinking of?

Usually one should think about the inhabitants and build the tank around that. For instance if someone wanted a "Dori" fish - A Blue Tang - they need almost 200G tank. Not a good fish for a beginner with a 30G tank.
