Hey Gang,

My 28g tank is around 5 months old and I'm starting to see some algae on the rock that has been in there since day 1. Also I'm finding I have to scrape the glass every day. Is this bad? The algae seems to be green and maroon...and it blows in the current.

Any advice? Is this bad? Thanks for helping an algae newbie!

How long are your lights on? What is your feeding schedule? Any unwanted algae growth is fueled by excess nutrients and light. Can probably be solved by feeding less and not having your lights on for so long.

It looks like red slime and maybe the start of hair algae to me.

Alright cut back feeding to a few times a week and cut the lights down. If you don't have anything in there that needs light you can keep the list off until it is gone. Add a CUC also.
