I've been trying to research lighting for a 75 Gal tank. I understand why a higher number of watts will have a deeper penetration in an aquarium from a "point" light source such as MH. (yes, I know MH's are not really a point light source...) But when I compared PC's I found that 65 Watt PC's (21"long) produce approximately 3.1 Watts of light Per inch and 96 Watt PC's (34" long) produce approximately 2.8 Watts of light per inch! If you take into account that the base of the bulbs are the same length (I'm assuming here) the output per inch of tube is approximately the same. although it probably still favors the 65's. What I'm driving at here is that a 96 Watt PC is not going to penetrate any deeper into the tank than a 65Watt PC!

I would agree. This is the reason I like MH for tanks taller than 22"-24".
