Protein skimmer question

Ok am really new to the hobby . At the moment am starting a 50 gallon bow front for reef am 5 days into a fishless cycle .my question is ,Do i have to run my bak pak hang on skimmer all day or turn it on occassionally? And do i even need it on during the fishless cycle. Sorry this is probally a dumb question. But since i have been a member here i have learned so much and am confident hat am in good hands when it comes to questions about my up coming build.

You want to run it all the time, and yes I would run it now - it takes several weeks of running for a skimmer to break in properly and start producing skimmate.

Thank u i just finished putting in 40 pounds of live argonite sand. My water is very cloudy still is it ok to put in my live rock with all the sand clouding my water
