Question about dosing

Hey everyone quick question. When calculating calcium and alk, do you account for the sump or just the display? I’m running a 13.5 gallon fluval evo. I believe 3.5 gallons goes to the “sump”. Also any recommendations for a dosing unit?

When I did a brief stint in dosing, I used one of the units form bulkreefsupply.
Before we go that far, can I ask why we are dosing? This is a very small system that can easily be managed by water changes. You will want to calculate the total water column, so yes include the sump, but it takes a very heavily SPS stocked tank to require dosing to replenish the elements that are being consumed.

The tankis SPS dominated for the most part. I’m also upgrading my talk to about a 30 long or a 40 breeder and I wanted some practise.

I'd wait to play with it until the larger water column. Smaller tanks are much more easy to kill off with a minor mistake. I've done it and in a big tank. It is very easy to do.

I too would just do PWC's for a smaller tank. Wait for a bigger tank to dose.
