Rinsing Carbon Packs

It seems no matter how much I rinse carbon packs (for canister filter), the "black" keeps coming out. Am I supposed to rinse until this stops, or is this OK and harmless?

I've ran a bag under water for almost 10 minutes, constantly turning it around and squeezing and the runoff water remains black!.

Carbon is inert and won't do anything negative at all to your water. I would just rinse until the majority of the "dust" is gone, then stop.

DT is exactly right as IME I just rinse till most dust is gone.

Gracias! I was just afraid of the black particles getting into the tank. But I won't worry about it now.
