SALT WATER MIXTURE

Has anybody tried using rock salt (like the one we buy at supermarket) as mixture for saltwater tanks. Sorry about the dumb question...

nope. Aquarium salt is made up of more than just salt...it has buffers in it that are specific to Aquariums that help created a stable environment.

I use evaporated purified sodium chloride (water softener salt) that I mix with magnesium sulfate and calcium chloride for my brine shrimp raising operation.
About a year ago, I started using half of this mixture with half Instant Ocean salt, in my 3 fish only tanks. So far so good!
I DO NOT USE THIS IN MY TANKS CONTAINING CORALS AND OTHER INVERTEBRATES.
