My tank has cleared and I was wondering if it is important for the sand to be an even depth throughout the tank? Thanks

OH yea, its a DSB, I thought I wasn't going to have enough but with all the LR in there its about 7-8 inches deep in some places and around 4 or 5 in others.

no problem. it should settle out, or you can smooth it. If you just don't like it, you might rearrange your water flow sources, because they are probably whats making the uneven shift.

there's nothing wrong with having different depths. Some folks aquscape the DSB like this intentionaly.
